Our Blog

The mild and dry weather in October has allowed many of us to rake up and collect our yard waste (leaves, grass, branches etc.) before the lasting snow arrives. There are a number of options permitted in Calgary for cleanup of your yard waste.

The first step is to fill your green cart, and once it is full it is expected that your remaining yard waste be collected in paper bags (available at most home and hardware stores). Roll the top of the bags closed to prevent spillage, and do not fill them so that they are too heavy to lift (20 kg limit). If you put your yard waste in plastic bags they will not be collected. The paper bags are designed to decompose with your yard waste. Your paper bags should be placed at least one foot to the side of your green cart for collection.

On busy weeks, the City may not able to collect all your paper bags – please store the remainder for the following week.

If you have extra yard waste, you can always bring it to a City landfill for composting. Charges will apply.

Bylaws relating to garbage and waste:

Carts should be set out by 7 a.m. on your collection day, but not before 7 p.m. the day before and be removed no later than 7 p.m. on collection day.

Garbage must not accumulate on your property.

Owners/occupants are responsible for maintaining their property in a tidy condition.

Garbage must not be burned.

Refer to the links above or please contact us if you have any questions about yard waste removal.
